EKLA School Direct Team
Primary and Secondary School Direct Lead and Mentor
Nicky has worked in education for over 31 years. Having trained as a secondary school teacher she initially worked in a girls' high school before transferring to a Further Education College where, as a senior lecturer, she taught and assessed on vocational Early Years, Childhood Studies and Health and Social Care Courses in addition to managing this sector for 5 years. Latterly she made the move back into secondary education, this time to a girls' grammar school where she worked as a class teacher, Head of Department and also Assistant Head Teacher. As an Advanced Skills Teacher (AST) Nicky has supported colleagues in secondary schools across the county in raising standards and student progress. Passionate about initial teacher training (ITT) she has experience of being a Subject Mentor, Professional Mentor and as the ITT Co-ordinator for another local Alliance. Nicky is delighted to now be the ITT Secondary Lead for EKLA and mindful of the demands of the School Direct programme, is here to support all of our trainees as they work towards achieving QTS.
Year 2 Teacher, PE Advisor HBH, Primary School Direct Mentor
For the last two years Fiona has been involved with supporting and guiding trainees through their training. Acting as an additional point of reference and sounding board as well as facilitator, this is a role that she is passionate about. Trainees deserve to be supported individually in so many ways from the practical to the emotional and having someone outside of the school or university has often proved to be invaluable. Fiona makes regular visits to trainees and has contact at the CPD sessions alongside emailing to keep in touch.
Every trainee is unique and is supported individually to receive the best possible outcome for them.
