ANNOUNCEMENT - NPQ SCHOLARSHIPS FOR LEADERS WORKING IN SCHOOLS IN PRIORITY AREAS

The DfE has recently confirmed that £10 million of the Teaching and Leadership Innovation Fund (TLIF) has been set aside to support teachers and leaders in challenging areas to access the reformed National Professional Qualifications (NPQs).

This funding will cover the full participant costs of the course for teachers working in an Opportunity Area or a priority area (defined by the DfE as a category 5 or 6 ‘Achieving Excellence’ area - see below 1).

These areas include Ashford, Crawley, Gravesham, Hastings, Lewes, Medway, Thanet (The DfE is determining these regions by authority areas as specified by the Local Authority District)

To be eligible for a scholarship, the participant must be:

  • Enrolled on an NPQ course
  • Work in a school in a category 5 or 6 area
  • Not already hold the NPQ for which they have enrolled
  • Not previously enrolled with the NPQ provider for the same NPQ course and dropped out before completing
  • The Department for Education has not previously paid for their NPQ course

More details will follow shortly.

Category 5 and 6 areas are those described in the Government’s 2016 White Paper: Educational Excellence Everywhere as having the weakest performance and least capacity to improve. A map of the category 5 and 6 areas is available here:
